The project is about halfway through. Recently, this area was full of water, but they didn't want water until this week, according to an unnamed worker on-site. He's responsible for routing the pipes and pumps to direct stream water around the project. The waterway (tunnel) spans Ballinger Way.

According to  Casey Conley, Construction Communications:

As of now, the project remains on track to reopen all lanes on SR 104/Ballinger Way NE by the end of the day on Oct. 31. There have been no new changes to the schedule. We reached an important milestone on Friday, Oct. 10, when we reintroduced Lyon Creek beneath the new culvert/bridge structure.

We still have work to do before the road can reopen. This includes extensive earthwork around the new culvert structure, installation of sidewalks and curbing, sewer work adjacent to the culvert and paving.

Finally, I wanted to note that we expect overnight sewer work will continue on 35th Avenue NE and NE 185th Street for much of November to finalize that aspect of this project.

Our

remains a good resource for background information and project schedules, etc.  WSDOT has not issued any safety violations during this project.

Safety remains our highest priority at WSDOT, and that applies to our employees and our contractor personnel. The incident on Sept. 13 was documented according to WSDOT protocols. Our contractor for this project, Johansen Construction Co., called a safety stand down and sent employees home for the day.
