"As a 5th grade teacher in the dual language program, my purpose is to foster bilingualism while supporting high academic achievement. In our classroom, we celebrate and honor each student’s identity and culture, embracing the rich funds of knowledge that students and their families bring, empowering students to become confident experts who share their voices."
- Blanca Valles Lopez, 5th Grade Dual Language Teacher, Briarcrest Elementary School
Briarcrest Principal Lisa Gonzalez shares, "Blanca teaches with true exuberance. She fully embodies the three pillars of dual language instruction—bilingualism and biliteracy, high academic achievement, and cross-cultural understanding—in her planning, her teaching, and her partnerships with students and families. Every day, her classroom is vibrant with language as students use their bilingual superpowers to think critically, create, and express themselves with confidence and pride. She brings humor, creativity, and heart into everything she does, creating a classroom where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired every single day. Her students have grown tremendously under her care because of her high expectations, thoughtful instruction, and deep belief in their potential. Blanca’s passion, dedication, and love for her students shine through in all she does. We are so lucky to have her at Briarcrest!"
We are celebrating All-Staff Appreciation Week in Shoreline Schools. Please join us in thanking them for all that they do for our students!
