Three Shorecrest High School Wrestlers Qualify For State Championship

There were two qualifying tournaments yesterday (girls and boys):
1) Boys’ WIAA 3A Region 3 Tournament (Top 5 Qualify)

Peter Grimm (Junior) - 152lbs - 3rd Place
Joseph Martinez (Senior) - 126lbs - 5th Place
*Grimm is a long time Rhinos Wrestling Club member and varsity football player for SCHS.
*Martinez (Boys’ 2022 team captain) is a long time Rhinos Wrestling Club member and is a varsity XC runner and Track runner for SCHS.

2) Girls’ WIAA 4A/3A Region 1 Tournament (Top 6 Qualify).
*Ana Matea Reed (Senior) - 110lbs - 4th Place

* Reed (Girls’ 2022 team captain) is a multi sport athlete who just started wrestling her sophomore year during the truncated “Covid Season”. The fact that Reed qualified for state is a testament to her work ethic and athletic ability considering the SCHS unofficial girls’ team was only able to compete in two tournaments this season prior to Districts.Reed was also a varsity swimmer for SCHS and enjoys water polo, soccer and gymnastics while not wrestling.

There were also a few other SCHS wrestlers who barely missed the alternate spot:
Evan Claar (Senior) - 220lbs - 7th Place
Max Rutledge (Senior) - 170lbs - 7th Place
Rebecca Rhodes (Junior) - 110lbs - 8th Place
