KENMORE, Wash. — One hundred affordable housing units, including studios and one-bedroom apartments, will be built in downtown Kenmore, according to a release from the city.
The city is partnering with the Plymouth Housing Group to build the units in the 6500 block of Bothell Way Northeast.
The cost-efficient units will be high-quality and sustainable. They will serve seniors, veterans, those with disabilities and formerly homeless people.
The city of Kenmore received three proposals to build affordable housing and chose Plymouth, which has worked in the region for 40 years to address homelessness.
“It is vital that we make bold investments now to increase affordable housing for our region’s most vulnerable neighbors. We look forward to partnering with the City of Kenmore and ARCH to provide 100 units of new permanent supportive housing to seniors and veterans in the city’s downtown area, where residents will have easy access to grocery stores, medical facilities, public transportation and other amenities that contribute to healthy living,” said Karen Peterson, Chief Real Estate Officer at Plymouth Housing.
The city of Kenmore will use $3.2 million from its American Rescue Plan Act funds and donate city-owned property for the project. It is also partnering with A Regional Coalition for Housing, which approved $3 million to help build the housing.
The estimated cost of the total project is $37.5 million.
Construction is set to begin in mid-2023, with an opening expected for December 2024.
