Why some restaurants could still struggle with relaxed capacity cap

This makes Blade & Timber the first axe-throwing venue in Washington permitted to serve alcohol, following two years of petitioning the state Cannabis and Liquor Board. The first time the venue applied, it eventually withdrew “in order to compile data and develop 80-pages of safety documents before reapplying to receive the board’s approval.”

“We have three years of experience operating axe throwing venues across the country that have safely hosted more than 100,000 guests while serving alcoholic beverages,” CEO Matt Baysinger said in a written release. “We are incredibly proud and excited to demonstrate how we will do so successfully in Seattle beginning this week.”

For now, the venue will start by limiting alcohol service to a small handful of local and domestic beers. The alcohol service will also come with some caveats, including a two-drink limit per person for a 90-minute axe-throwing session. Customers will also continue to operate in “fully enclosed lanes,” while receiving training from staff on how to safely throw an axe.

Wine and liquor will not be served for the time being, although Blade & Timber hasn’t ruled out the possibility in the future. While beer will only be served to those of legal drinking age, the venue offers axe-throwing to anyone age 10 and up.

Guests are still allowed to bring their own food, although Blade & Timber does serve snacks, soda, and water.
