City Makes Another Announcement About Roundabout Drinking Water Impacts

The Ballinger Way NE Roundabout construction has required the District to temporarily change how water flows through portions of our distribution system. The impacts of these changes, particularly discolored water in some areas, have been greater than we anticipated.

We also recognize that our communication with customers regarding these changes and their potential impacts has not been adequate, and we apologize. As additional shutdowns or system changes are required, we will do a better job of providing advance notice to impacted customers, including information about what to expect and how to prepare.

Changes in water flow can disturb naturally occurring minerals such as calcium and iron within water mains and cause temporary discoloration. There is no health concern associated with the discoloration. Out of an abundance of caution, the District collected water samples from representative locations in the distribution system and all bacteriological samples came back negative.

We have also been in communication with the Washington State Department of Health, Office of Drinking Water regarding the situation and our response.

Discolored water?

If you experience discolored water, run cold water from a bathtub, outside faucet, or other high-flow fixture for 5–10 minutes. If the discoloration persists, contact the District at 206-365-3211 or office@lfpwd.org.
